Today I want to discuss the difference between an Interior designer and a decorator.
The difference is really straightforward but there are some major distinctions.
- An Interior Designer uses art and science to understand peoples behaviors and creates a functional space within a building. A designer will also work directly with an arcitect or contractor in laying out the interior space so the inhabitants will have a useful, fashionable, and practical room. A designer may consider lighting, acoustics, and other design aspects but she will also be well versed in building codes, and structural considerations. So in short, a designer may and usually does decorate, but decotators do not design. This is why interior designers need to complete professional training.
- An Interior Decorator is not involved in the design process or the layout of the interior space. She is focused mainly on colors, fabrics, furnature or textiles for the room. Her job is to add style and personality to the clients room. Finally, a decorator does not need any proper training.
So now that you understand the differences you can feel confident that hiring a proffesional interior designer will help you create a beautiful yet functional space that you will adore.
